Deep within the darkest caverns of Destard, the great Dragon King, Vermithrax, stirs from his ancient slumber. The skies are growing darker with his brood, and if he wakes to full strength, all of Sosaria will burn. It is up to you to infiltrate his lair and put an end to him.

WARNING

Mythic Difficulty Vermithrax is a Mythic-tier boss. Attempting this encounter alone is practically suicide for most adventurers. Bring a coordinated group, fire resistance, and plenty of healing.

🗺️ How to Start the Raid

To begin the raid, you must seek out the Wyrmguard Defector. This turncoat of the dragon-cult is currently hiding from his masters inside the Shattered Skull Tavern in Skara Brae.

Speak to him to begin the 3-Part Questline.

📜 The Questline

Part 1: Crippling the Flight

Vermithrax's brood is awakening. Before you can face the King, you must thin the skies of his lesser kin so they cannot interfere.

  • Objective: Slay 50 Wyverns.
  • Reward: 1,500 Gold Coins.

Part 2: The Heart of the Dragon

To summon Vermithrax on your own terms before he is fully awake, you require a potent magical catalyst: a Pristine Dragon Heart.

  • Objective: Hunt down Dragons, Drakes, or Greater Dragons. They have a 5% chance to drop a Pristine Dragon Heart upon death.
  • Reward: You get to keep the Pristine Dragon Heart to use as an Altar Key.

Part 3: The Ancient One

Journey into the absolute deepest depths of Destard, past the Ancient Wyrms, until you find the charred Dragon Skull Altar.

  • Objective:
    1. Double-click the Dragon Skull Altar.
    2. The Altar will consume your Pristine Dragon Heart and Vermithrax will instantly spawn.
    3. Slay Vermithrax the Ancient!
  • Reward: 5,000 Gold Coins and the Gilded Wyrm Tooth Trophy.

NOTE

Altar Cooldowns Once Vermithrax is defeated, the Altar goes into a 5-minute smoking cooldown phase before another group can use a heart to summon him again.

💎 Boss Loot & Mythic Artifacts

Aside from the quest rewards, physically slaying Vermithrax is incredibly lucrative. When he dies, an enormous shower of gold rains upon the battlefield.

Guaranteed Baseline Drops:

  • 1,400 to 1,700 Gold (Dropped directly)
  • 75 to 125 Sosarian Coins
  • 5 to 10 Mythic Cores

🏆 Custom Artifact Pool

Every time Vermithrax is defeated, there is a 4% Global Chance that he drops one of his four legendary, boss-specific artifacts directly to his corpse.

  • Talon of the Ancient: A fierce Kryss forged from his claws, granting +35% Damage Increase and dealing 100% Fire Damage.
  • Wyrm-Hide Tunic: A masterful leather chestpiece granting unparalleled beginning fire-resistances.
  • Band of the Dragon: A golden bracelet granting +5 Strength and +10% Damage Increase.
  • Vermithrax's Wing: A heavy kite shield capable of Spell Channeling, forged directly from his scales.
