Welcome to the definitive guide on the Age of Sosaria Taming Ecosystem. Unlike standard shards where everyone runs around with the exact same Greater Dragon, our shard features a highly customized, deep meta built into three distinct tiers of custom pets: Rares, Legendaries, and Exotics.
Here is exactly how the mechanics work, how to find them, and what they do.
🎲 System Mechanics: The Spawn Rates
Rares and Legendaries do not have their own spawn locations. Instead, they seamlessly hijack the spawn chance of standard creatures in the wild:
- The Rare Roll (5% Chance): Every time a standard tameable beast (like a Cu Sidhe, Drake, or Rune Beetle) spawns in the world, there is a 5% chance it will magically mutate into a "Rare" variant.
- The Legendary Roll (1% Chance): Every time a standard tameable beast attempts to spawn, there is an ultra-rare 1% chance it mutates into a "Legendary" variant.
NOTE
Exotics bypass this system entirely and are acquired exclusively through endgame boss loot drops.
🌟 Tier 1: The "Rare" Tier
Rare pets exist as massive quality-of-life skips for standard Tamers. They are not mechanically different from their standard counterparts, but they spawn with heavily bloated base stats and skills.
- The Niche: Skip the Macro Grind.
- What it means: Taming a Rare Rune Beetle essentially gives you a pet that is theoretically already trained to level 3 out of the box. It possesses higher health and pre-capped skills compared to a wild normal bug.
- Who has Rares? Nightmares, Fire Steeds, Dragons, Drakes, White Wyrms, Cu Sidhes, Giant Beetles, Rune Beetles, Hiryus, and Swamp Dragons all have a pre-statted Rare variant.
👑 Tier 2: The "Legendary" Tier
Finding a Legendary is a monumental event. Unlike Rares, Legendaries completely break the rules of normal Animal Training. They have customized control slot costs and intrinsic perks (like immunities and built-in armor ignore) that they shouldn't legally have!
1. The Legendary Lesser Hiryu
- Base Slots: 2
- The Niche: The Physical DPS Benchmark
- Intrinsic Perks: Natively spawns with
Armor Ignore. When combined with the HiryuGrasping Clawability (which shreds enemy physical resistance), training this from 2 to 5 slots yields the most lethal independent physical beast in the game.
2. The Legendary Najasaurus
- Base Slots: 2
- The Niche: The Toxic Brawler
- Intrinsic Perks: Natively spawns with a mathematically perfect 100% Poison Immunity. When fighting mythic bosses that spit lethal Poison AoEs (like Malakar), this snake is the absolutely mandatory tank.
3. The Legendary Ossein Ram
- Base Slots: 3
- The Niche: The Hybrid Boss Leech
- Intrinsic Perks: Inherently possesses
NecromageandLifeLeech. It will constantly sustain its own health pool via powerful leeching bites while firing necrosis magic into bosses.
4. The Legendary Frenzied Ostard (Chocobo)
- Base Slots: 1
- The Niche: The Glass Cannon Sweeper
- Intrinsic Perks: Spawns exactly at 1-Slot and possesses the
Frenzied Whirlwindsplash-damage ability. Pouring 6,000 custom training points into a 1-slot mount turns it into a hyper-fast AoE clearing blender.
5. The Legendary Triton
- Base Slots: 2
- The Niche: The High-Seas Bruiser
- How to Find: Only drops when rolling standard Tritons during deep ocean Leviathan encounters or high-end SOS Bottles.
6. The Legendary Greater Dragon
- Base Slots: 5 (Locked)
- The Niche: The Unbreakable Physical Wall
- Intrinsic Perks: Near immunity to Fire damage, immense out-of-the-box base HP (1200+), and native
Bleed/Armor Ignore. Cannot be trained further.
7. The Legendary Polar Bear
- Base Slots: 2
- The Niche: The Pure Defensive Tank Project
- Intrinsic Perks: A completely blank slate starting at 2 slots, designed to have 4,500 training points injected directly into making it an unbreakable wall.
8. The Legendary Nightmare / Bake Kitsune
- Base Slots: 2
- The Niche: Magical Hit-and-Run Mounts
- Intrinsic Perks: Excellent base Magery and Intelligence. Designed specifically to be trained into 5-slot mobile harassing casters for PvP.
🔮 Tier 3: The "Exotic" Tier
Exotics do not spawn organically. To tame one, you must find an Exotic Summoning Crystal. These incredibly rare shards only drop from Champion Spawns or Mythic Bosses. Smashing the crystal safely in your backpack releases a completely randomized Exotic beast into the world for you to tame.
Exotics are wildly unnatural creatures that fill purely magical and utilitarian holes in the taming ecosystem.
1. The Exotic Mana-Wisp
- Base Slots: 3
- The Niche: The Arcane Battery
- Intrinsic Perks: This pet deals almost zero physical DPS. However, it constantly pulses a radiant magical aura that directly restores chunks of Mana to you and your party members during combat.
2. The Exotic Greater Dragon
- Base Slots: 5 (Locked)
- The Niche: The Hovering Artillery
- Intrinsic Perks: Its physical strength has been severely crippled, but it spawns with nearly 1,100 Base Intelligence. It hovers on the edge of the battlefield dropping massive spell combinations onto bosses.
3. The Exotic Rideable Dragon
- Base Slots: 4
- The Niche: The Field-Sweeping Mount
- Intrinsic Perks: Capable of triggering massive AoE elemental blasts when the player dismounts, heavily damaging grouped-up mobs.
(Note: Countless other bizarre Exotics like Manticores, Gryphons, and Shadow Spiders can also randomly hatch from the Summoning Crystal!)
